Review procedure of articles in Geographical Journal
Review procedure of all articles submitted for publication in Geographical Journal is compliant with the guidelines of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education “Good practices in review procedures in science” of 2011.
The process of and basic rules for drafting reviews:
- Authors of papers submitted for publication in Czasopismo Geograficzne should ensure that no information revealing their identity can be found in the files sent;
- After an article has been submitted to Czasopismo Geograficzne, there is an initial acceptance stage in which the Editorial Board assesses the compliance of the work with the scientific profile and basic formal requirements of the journal. Once such compliance has been established, the article is sent over for review;
- Reviewers are not members of the Editorial Board of Czasopismo Geograficzne. They are selected exclusively by their competences regarding the subject of the article;
- Each paper is reviewed by two independent reviewers and neither the reviewers nor the authors know their identities (a so-called double-blind review). The list of cooperating reviewers is published annually on the journal website;
- The review is prepared only in writing based on a form composed of three parts. The review form is available on the journal website. A reviewer is obliged to clearly indicate which changes to the reviewed work are obligatory and which are optional;
- A reviewer is permitted to formulate general or detailed remarks in the editable text of the paper in review and ‘track changes’ modes. In this case, a reviewer is obliged to add references to the text that includes corrections in the review form and also to ensure that there are no elements that would disclose the identity of a reviewer in the file with corrections.
- If reviewers’ opinions on the possibility of publishing the article vary, the Editors may refer the paper to the third reviewer;
- If reviewers’ opinions are positive, but minor or major revisions, possibly reconstruction, are required on the part of the author and reviewers do not ask for a second review, the Editorial Board decides at the request of the Managing Editor if the article qualifies for publication;
- Both reviewers and authors of articles are obliged to carry out their tasks with due diligence, reliability and punctuality – reviewers—to prepare a review, and authors—to respond to the presented review in writing;
- The rules on editorial ethics apply to the author, editor and reviewer during the process and after completing the review procedure.
- The deadline for completion of the review is four weeks, for the author to make changes and revisions – two weeks.
